I experienced Matthew Wahl’s work after attending the New Attitude conference in ‘07. His work for Sovereign Grace Ministries is outstanding. There’s a big difference between reacting to trends and creating them. I still see myself as one who still reacts. I haven’t gotten to the point where I am comfortable with my knowledge and skill to create without first looking to cheat off my neighbor. I believe Matthew Wahl is one of the few designers who has risen above the waves of trends. I am going nuts over this new font of his. If only I could get my grubby hands on it….wait….was I just reacting?

Fabien Barral has been the biggest influence in developing my style of art. I’ve been visiting to his site, Graphic-Exchange, daily for years. He recently updated his personal site and it looks fabulous. It’s easy to navigate and he has assembled a great portfolio. This is the logo he did for his vinyl wall art, Harmonie Interieure. I’ve been seeing this logo for a while now but never really took it all in. It’s gorgeous. I would frame this and hang it on my wall. He’s done a great job of creating a sense of depth with this logo. It almost stands off the page. It’s like you could reach your hand through it and grab the twig behind his icon. Very nice.

Art&Light Gallery is having a themed show Feb. 6&7. The idea is to show the heat of the art district in West Greenville contrasted with the crisp cool winter air. This is the print I did for that show. I’m really looking forward to the show. Everyone needs to make it out. American Grocery Restaurant is going to be catering the event with local foods. It’s going to be a great party! “Heat” will be available soon on the Fine Art page.

When you spend time with a grandparent you show respect to them by listening. Because they have obtained years of wisdom beyond yours. So when you meet an artist that is so far beyond you in skill and establishment, it is wise to shut up and listen and learn. Dolan Geiman is a guy who does phenomenal work. His use of textures, colors and how he assembles vintage “trash” into beautiful balanced works of art is worth noting. There’s a lot I can learn from this guy.

This is pretty cool. Watch a house be built. But what’s so special about this house is the use of alternative materials. And the fact that it’s a freaking sweet modern house, which I personally love. I find it very interesting to watch what they do. So check them out…
