    Nickajack has finally arrived

    Filed in Music, New Work

As many of you know music holds a very dear part of my heart. Very few things in life move me like music. Music has an incredible ability to soothe a troubled soul, encourage an overwhelmed spirit, become a vessel for shouts of praise and joy, or cause one to analyze their life or current situation. Music was a great avenue for me to express myself creatively and to release frustration. I love music, playing guitar, and writing songs but maybe not as much as I use to. I’ve now found other avenues to explore and more important things to occupy my time. You may already know that I released a full LP in 2004 entitled, Eucatastrophe. It was a great experiment that I am proud of and I believe it was a great accomplishment for me though musically and lyrically I’ve evolved since then. I began writing new songs shortly after that and slowly but surely have been recording them. Some have sat for years without being touched until recently. I’ve been wanting to release my new EP, entitled Nickajack, for many years now. And that day has finally come. Some songs never made it off the shelf and some still sit half finished. But I believe these five songs create a great cohesive thought. Each one of these songs deals with choices. A choice to do what you know is right or to follow the anger of your heart and do what you know will only lead to destruction. It is this great conflict that we face every day. The word Nickajack is the name of a cave in Tennessee. When Johnny Cash was faced with the despair that his life was too messed up to fix he found himself inside this cave asking God to take his life. He was done. But he heard a voice telling him, “Get up. I’m not done with you yet.” God graciously gave John the power to kick his demons out and shut the door. And it’s only God’s grace that keeps that door shut. Even to the last line of his last song his hope was firm in Jesus Christ but yet he still felt the enticement of the path God yanked him from in that cave. “Oh Lord, help me to walk another mile, just one more mile.”

Thanks to Ryan Hodges for playing drums on Right One For Me and Andy Martin for playing ebow on Right One For Me.

    Another music post

So to add to the YouTube music clips, I found this great video of U2 performing The Unforgettable Fire recently on their U2 360 tour. Not only is this a great video, I am so excited to see them perform this great song live. I don’t believe they’ve performed it live since the late 80′s.

    Doves, Kingdom of Rust

    Filed in Music

I’m loving this new album from a great band called Doves. Kingdom of Rust is, in my opinion, their best album so far. Most albums have 1 or 2 standouts and the rest are either mediocre of throw away. But this album’s songs are pretty equal. And they’re all good! So I highly suggest giving it a listen.
