Method Press is a brand new magazine that included an interview with me for their first edition. I was super excited and flattered that they’d interview me. It was great to communicate a lot of the thoughts that are swirling around my head. Thanks guys and congrats on such a great magazine! 2010 has been crazy

So things don’t always go the way you plan. In fact, rarely they do. But that’s what keeps life interesting. If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been posting much on my blog. The reason for this is because I’m working on a complete overhaul of marcosuarez.com and my business. Up until now, I’ve considered myself to be a freelancer. Not much pressure. But now I’ve been challenged to grow what I do into a respectable business. If you don’t know where you’re going you’ll never know when you get there. So I’m rebranding myself, redoing my website, and creating a business. I hope to have the new site up by the end of July, just before my bundle of joy comes. So please be patient. My new site will kick some A!

Let’s admit it, the economy kinda sucks right now. People are feeling it in almost every industry. But it’s not all bad news. It’s never a bad thing to evaluate your priorities and where your money is going. And it feels good to shed some of the unnecessary stuff you’ve accumulated over the years. But honestly, who couldn’t use a few extra bucks? So I have an idea that will help both you and me. If you know someone who needs design work (website, brochure, logo, business cards, etc.) send me their name and contact info and if it turns out to be a job I will give you 10% of whatever I charge. 10% may not sound like much, but if you think about it, 10% of a $2,000 website is $200! And all you did was make a phone call or write an email.

But there are some rules.

1. I am industry specific. I am not good at designing a website for a plumber. Unless that plumber is totally cool and wants a kick butt website. I only work in the creative industries, i.e. art galleries, artists, restaurants, builders, florists, interior design, stores, etc. Basically I only want to work with people who are interested in aesthetics.

2.I have the right to turn down any job if I don’t think it will be a good fit. I don’t want to be a sweat shop turning out tons of work with no heart or thought behind them. I will only accept jobs if I think I can truly help the client’s business.

3. You will get paid when I do. You will get 10% of what I charge up to $200 when I get paid by the client. That means if a website turns out to be $1,500, you will get $150. But if a job turns out to be $3,000, you will only get $200. Because let’s be honest, you just sent me an email or phone call. And if I got paid $200 for a phone call, I’d be pretty freakin happy!

4. I stand behind my work. I have never had a job turn sour because of my lack of responsibility. I work hard and truly desire to see my work influence the success of a business. I trust that the clients I work with are also honest and ethical. And so far, everyone I’ve worked with has been a pleasure and I want to keep that streak going!

So in summary, if you know someone in the industries mentioned above who needs some help with logos, printed materials or websites, give me their contact info. And if it turns out to be a job, I will give you 10% of whatever I charge.

Affordable Christmas Art Markets this Weekend!

The artist district of Greenville, SC will be having an awesome Christmas art market this coming weekend (Dec. 4 & 5). I will be participating in the Winter Art Market at Art Crossing along the river at the West End. Come down and see me and BUY SOME ART!!! Also, my friends at the Art Bomb and White Whale are having winter art markets as well. They’ll be featuring very affordable artwork. This is the best time to buy some art!!!

So I had the incredible opportunity to see U2 live in Raleigh this past Saturday night. We got in line at 8:30am for a concert that started at 7:00pm. Muse was the opener. It was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to a lot of concerts. Many people talk about how U2 is losing their relevance and edge (no pun intended). But after seeing them live, there is no one who compares to them. They’ve been touring for nearly 30 years and you can tell they still enjoy it. They’ve played these songs hundreds if not thousands of times and they’re playing them like it was for the first time. And I was as excited to hear their new songs, as I was their old. And their production was incredible. The visual stimulation was unlike any experience I’ve had. Truly a great night!

Twestival Greenville event, this Thursday (9/10)

Greenville is one of 133 cities around the world holding Twestival events this weekend to benefit local charities. Ours will be held Thursday, Sept. 10 at The Lazy Goat in downtown Greenville from 5:30pm-7:30pm. It’s the only Twestival happening in the entire state of South Carolina!

Features of the event include a silent auction with lots of great items including a framed print of mine, personal training sessions and more and a budget-friendly fashion show featuring outfits created by six area boutiques. The stores combined one piece from their own shop with items from the Miracle Hill Thrift Store to style trendy, affordable looks. Once the models walk the runway the items they wore from Miracle Hill will be available for purchase. The MC of our fashion will be Nigel Robertson from WYFF.

The event is free, but a limited number of VIP tickets are still available for just $20. VIP perks include reserved seating and swag bags full of freebies. Plus the first 70 general admission guests will also get free gift bags.

This is a great opportunity to be a part of something special here in Greenville. Here is a PDF with more info on the event.

Our New House

So we sold our house and we bought a new one. Well, new to us. It’s sad to come to an end but excitement always comes with the new. We move in August 17th and it couldn’t come soon enough. We’ve already got ideas for what we’re going to do with it.

Lemons NEW PRINT

Introducing my new print, Lemons. I used photos I took while in New York at a really awesome diner on the corner of Broadway and Bleecker. For some reason I kept thinking of old 1950′s technicolor movies. Like Alfred Hitchcock, Audrey Hepburn or even POP artist, Andy Warhol. This print is 8×10. Yes, I know, conventional size. But I want it to be easy to frame. Purchase it at my etsy store for only $25!

Renegade Review

So while in Brooklyn we visited the Renegade Craft Fair. Very cool and very overwhelming. We came away with quite a haul. And left with a lot less money than we came with. But it was worth the finds. I was able to meet one of my favorite artists Dolan Geiman and his fiance Ali. They were very nice and I think I may have convinced them to come to Artisphere next year. Greenville desperately needs some real art at Artisphere instead of the overpriced Garden Ridge art that they currently offer. Here’s a few pics of the noteworthy booths we found.

New York

So we just got back from New York and had a great time! Very exhausted though. It was Michelle’s first time there so we did the tourist thing as well as hit some very local spots. Michelle’s sis Erica lives in the East Village so we spent most of our time around there. We also ran into Jermaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords there. He had his baby strapped to him and was with his wife. We went up to him to take a pic but opted on just saying hi. We wanted to respect his privacy.

We also visited Dailey and Michelle Crafton in Brooklyn during the Renegade craft fair, which was quite overwhelming. So much good art. We came away with a haul and a lot less cash but we had a blast. I took some photos of some booths that I thought were especially noteworthy.

Here’s some pics from the city. Michelle and I wandered upon this incredible cafe for breakfast. Not only was the decor and interior so sweet, the food was out of this world. And they played Radiohead while we ate which was icing on the cake.

We also had the opportunity to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset. Very cool.
